In this episode we discuss the social responsibility of robotics manufactures with Ryan Gariepy (seated), CTO of Canadian company Clearpath Robotics and in the Artificial Intelligence community, with Stuart Russell (in the tyre), Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Berkeley University, California. Both spoke during the CCW.

Clear path Robotics recently took the bold step of become the first robotics company with defense contracts to come forward and support a ban on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems. Ryan tells us why. Stuart points out that there had been little interest within the AI community to accept social responsibility for its creations – but that is changing.

Steve is ICRAC’s specialist on Less Lethal Autonomous Weapons (LLAWS).

ICRAC Podcast Episode #3: Interview with Jody Williams, chairwoman of the Nobel Women’s initiative (CCW Special 3/6)

Jody Williams has been a humanitarian campaigner for most of her adult life. In 1991 she began co-ordinating the successful Campaign to Ban Landmines and received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1997. But she didn’t stop there. In 2004 Jody took the lead in establishing the Nobel Women’s Initiative with other women Nobel peace laureates and has been the chairwoman ever since. Their aim is to support and promote the work of women around the world working for peace with justice and equality.

In this interview Jody talks about the importance of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots and tells us what is most annoying about its opponents.
